A pop up salon By Flamingo Amy.......

Now as you all know I absolutely adore anything vintage and retro! So when I first came across Amy she was showcasing her work at the Curious Vintage wedding fair in Norwich, So I was so disappointed that I had to change my plans and I was unable to attend,
So I asked Amy to tell me more about this 'Pop Up Salon' and cant wait to see her in action!

''My name is Amy Taylor but I'm better known as Flamingo Amy. I'm a hairstylist who specialises in 'hair-up', but specifically what is now know as 'vintage' styling. This means that I create styles from the golden age of Hollywood - the 1920's to 1960's. Although that is what I love I generally love being creative with hair and will cater for any design.

My name is Amy Taylor but I'm better known as Flamingo Amy. I'm a hairstylist who specialises in 'hair-up', but specifically what is now know as 'vintage' styling. This means that I create styles from the golden age of Hollywood - the 1920's to 1960's. Although that is what I love I generally love being creative with hair and will cater for any design.

I am originally from Southend-on-Sea, but came to live in Norwich to complete an art degree. After I graduated I was at a loss as what to do career wise and after careful thought realised that I wanted to become a hairdresser. Infact, I did apply for a hairdressing course at 16, but for some reason went the A-Level route and ended up at art school.
Although this did seem like a whiplash change of direction to me at first, I realised that to be a hairdresser you have to be creative and understand things that artists do, like proportion and shape.
What I love about my job is the variety of things I do from styling clients in the great salon I work in (Flint Hair), to styling for brides in fancy hotels to photoshoots in cool locations. If I had to be in one place all of the time I know I would be very bored indeed!

My creative side helped me produce my latest project - The Pop Up Salon. This is a portable 1950's inspired salon that I can bring and build for events and fairs. It was born out of my frustration at not having a comfortable and attractive space to work at when working at events and fairs. The salon was designed and build by a local set designer at BixBProductions. Teal is one of my favourite colours so I know it had to be this colour. I also love the glamour of lights around mirrors as they remind me of backstage at a theatre.

The salon is actually available to hire for weddings. Imagine having you very own private salon all day for you and your guests?

So I think you can agree, Amy's work is so beautiful! This picture is from a photoshoot with photographer Tatum Reid.

You can find more details on this on her website www.flamingoamy.co.uk

With special thanks to Amy for taking the time to produce this for us.)
