Remembering Loved Ones

Getting married is one of the most important days in anyone's life. It is the day where you show your family and friends the love that you and your partner share, declaring it to the world. But sometimes, not everyone is there to see it. Many of us have had or will have people who were very dear to us, not present at a wedding. Be it a grandparent, parent, sibling or child, life can be cruel and leave us missing the ones we love. But you can still include their memory on your special day, doing something memorable and symbolic for everyone to remember a love one passed on.

Speeches

During your speeches, you could have a special reading or poem dedicated to those who couldn't be with you on your special day. Take time to pick the piece to read, making sure it means something to you, or really shows the spirit of the person or people you are remembering. It doesn't have to be sad, perhaps, your dad loved a football chant or a child with a favourite short story, keep it personal and meaningful.

Photographs

Why not display pictures of happy times and special days with them. You could have frames that match the theme of the wedding displayed around the gift area or cake, or perhaps just a personal one to have with you at the top table so you can look at it and smile, knowing they are right there with you.

Music

How about a piece of music that is special to you. You could either play it as part of your ceremony, or even have a special dance with everyone on the dancefloor. I know for the people I can't have on my wedding day, I will be having a bagpiper play Lonely Island as a symbol.

Symbolism

Another way to remember our loved ones is a symbolic gesture. There are so many ways you can do this. My personal favourite is a dove release. You could have a whole flock, or a single dove for each person missed. It is a very meaningful way to treasure them, and has been used since the Romans. You can also light a candle for them, perhaps having a minutes silence as it is lit. Having a military wedding? Why not have the fellow soldiers fire off a couple of rounds for each person lost. Or you could release sky lanterns into the night sky, to symbolise their spirit carrying on.

There is also a charity donation made in the loved ones name. Many of us have lost family and friends to illness and rare disorders, and with gift donations from guests, the money raised could go to a chosen charity to help raise awareness and afford research into preventing it for others. This is exceptionally nice as you know their memory will be helping others.

Whatever you do, be sure to have them as part of your day, they may not be with you in body, but their spirit lives on.

Geeky Garter

I've seen some absolutely stunning garters; really delicate in fabulous laces and silks with intricate detailing....

But what if that's not who you are. What if you don't want something really frilly and girly but still want to stick to the tradition of wearing a garter? What should you do?

I've found some amazing garters for female geeks. Some of these are just great! And you can still use wonderful materials but can satisfy your inner (or outer) geek at the same time... And your man if he's a geek too!

Some of these are not my cup of tea however I love the tardis garter and the pi garter the most. Although the superhero and pacman garters are very different!

Which is your favourite?

What geeky garter would you have made?

How would you sum up yourself and your interests with your garter?

Beards and Moustaches

Facial hair. Love it or hate it it's his face and if he decides he wants to have a beard there is a chance that there is nothing you can do about it (short of cutting it off in his sleep which may result in a canceled wedding...).

His facial hair may come in many different forms; full beard, moustache, goatee or big sideburns. But he probably has what he has because he loves it. He may be making a statement or covering something up, but either way it's probably his pride and joy.

So with that in mind here are some ways to embrace the beard on your wedding day; make it a feature, humour his love for his facial hair, make it a theme.

You could send bearded or moustached wedding invitations. Have fake beards for the guest to wear and use as props in photos. A moustache wedding cake! Beard beer can covers. Beard hip flasks. Moustache nails.

Here are some photos of some of the fantastic beard related wedding ideas!

Daisy, Daisy

Good morning!!
Ok so the coldness is getting to me right now! I have so had enough! I'm determined to look forward to Spring! The thought of sitting on the grass making daisy chains with the kids seems sooo far away! But it got me thinking of how pretty a daisy themed wedding would be!
So if your looking for a clean cut fresh looking theme oozing with sophistication then look no further than my love daisy theme.....

Dreaming of Chocolate

Happy Monday folks! Can you believe its already here again? Today I am bringin you chocolate themed weddings, and not necessarily the sweet stuff. The colour is great for weddings, especially if its an autumn or winter one. It also goes well with many colours such as cherry red, sky blue, gold and pastel pink.

There is so much you can do to make the day special too! How about a hot chocolate bar for greeting drinks instead of sparkling wine (you can always add a drop of Baileys to make it a bit more warming for the tummy)? You can also make an arrayment of favours from hot choc mixes to small sweet arrangements. Make use of the autumn leaves outside too, the reds and oranges are the perfect backdrop. But why talk when I can just show you! Have a look for yourself!

Can you believe it's already Friday again? And what better way to start the weekend than by showcasing another fabulous East Anglian wedding supplier! Today we have the creative Karen Wallace with Bella Cupcakes on the blog. Read on to find out more!

Who are you?

My name is Karen Wallace and I'm the face behind Bella Cupcakes.

How did you get into a career in cupcakes?

I hadn't planned to start my own cake business, it happened totally by accident. My grandaughter was staying over and we decided to make some yummy cakes and biscuits. She was so excited about the cupcakes and I decided to whip up some more when I was alone. I took sme to work and my colleagues loved them, and begn ordering from me. Within weeks it had snowballed so I decided to start a FB page which led onto Twitter and my website. The name came from my grandaughter Isabella, as Bella means beautiful in Italian, and beautiful cupcakes are what I create, hence Bella Cupcakes!

What do you offer brides and grooms?

We know that planning a wedding can be stressful, and we want to help. Wedding cupcakes are becoming very popular, and with us already having many weddings in the works, we can help to make yours just as you imagined. We like to take a little bit of the weight off your mind during your planning, as well as giving you some beautiful, customised, completely original and totally fresh cupcakes.

Favourite part of your job?
