Batman vs Superman - The DC Duo Divided?

Well we have all heard the controversy by now that Ben Affleck is set to replace Christian Bale in the upcoming Batman vs Superman film set to hit our screens in 2015. But which of our caped crusaders wins in the wedding world?

Batman

First appearing in our comics in 1939, Bruce Wayne has been played by many actors over time, with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and Christian Bale all putting on the black suit. And its easy to see why so many grooms love him for their wedding as well as brides. He is dark and mysterious, rich and powerful. Ladies love him, guys want to be him. And the Batman theme fits really well with modern weddings, especially with more and more brides opting for black bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. Great for a classy, sophisticated look with a hint of fun.

Superman

The first appearance of Superman was in 1938, and has lead to many films and tv shows based on his character, most recently being Man of Steel with Henry Cavill (yummy). Another popular choice, especially for the shyer men as he is the bumbling boy with the glasses, who turns into the most powerful being on the planet. He can shoot lasers from his eyes, blow a gale and even turn back time! A great choice for the summer months as the colours are bright and bold, and a great idea for couples wanting something fun and exciting on their day.

Eye Popping Cake Pops!

A new craze seems to be sweeping the baking world, the craze of the cake pop! What is a cake pop you ask? Balls of cake on a stick, literally a lollypop with cake replacing the lolly. These delicious little morsels are great because they can be used for place settings, favours and even the wedding cake! And as more and more people make them, more and more creations are coming through the folds. From cartoon characters and flowers to patterns and people, they are a fun way to surprise your guests.

Have a peek!

A Dr Seuss Inspired Wedding!!

A Dr Seuss inspired wedding... A little out there but I think it could be amazing! Bright colours, slanting cakes and multi coloured food. Here are some great Dr Seuss quotes to accompany this theme;

"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams"

"We are all a little weird and life is a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

I think one of the things I love the most about this theme is the amazing cakes! They almost defy gravity! I must find out how to make one...

On a Bicycle Made For Two

Today's post is inspired by the lyrics of a song my Dad you to sing to me to try to get me to sleep when I was a baby. Daisy Bell, written by Harry Dacre, 1892;

There is a flower
Within my heart,
Daisy, Daisy!
Planted one day
By a glancing dart,
Planted by Daisy Bell!
Whether she loves me
Or loves me not,
Sometimes it's hard to tell;
Yet I am longing to share the lot -
Of beautiful Daisy Bell!

Daisy, Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle made for two.

We will go 'tandem'
As man and wife,
Daisy, Daisy!
'Peddling' away
Down the road of life,
I and my Daisy Bell!
When the road's dark
We can both despise
P'licemen and 'lamps' as well;
There are 'bright lights’
In the dazzling eyes
Of beautiful Daisy Bell!

Daisy, Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle made for two.

I will stand by you
In 'weal' or woe,
Daisy, Daisy!
You'll be the bell(e)
Which I'll ring you know!
Sweet little Daisy Bell!
You'll take the 'lead'
In each 'trip' we take,
Then if I don't do well,
I will permit you to
Use the brake,
My beautiful Daisy Bell!

I love the idea of using bicycles on your wedding day; for transport as well as inspiration! A very easy way to have a green wedding! Enjoy this bicycle wedding inspiration...

Dapper in Bow-ties

This is one for the Gentlemen today. Can't decide if you should have a cravat, tie, bow-tie or open collar? I've found some amazing photos of bow-ties; proving that they don't have to be plain and black. They're also great if you're including your dog in the days events and you want to get them involved in the colour theme. And no one can argue that bow-ties look adorable on children!

If you decide to go for bow-ties then why not pick it up as a theme and continue it throughout the day. Bow-ties on the cake, place cards, invitations...

Bank Holiday Movie Bliss!

Wedding planning is stressful, very stressful. So why not take a break and watch a film to give you some inspiration! Here are some of my favourite wedding RomcComs for you to immerse yourselves in (make sure you have tissues at the ready!)

Sweet Home Alabama

Melanie Carmicheal (Reese Witherspoon) is a New York fashion designer with the ideal glamourous life; beautiful, successful and newly engaged to hot bachelor Andrew (Patrick Dempsey). All would be perfect if not for her past life with Jake (Josh Lucas), the redneck husband she married in high school who refuses to give her a divorce.

When the too-good-to-be-true Andrew, son of Mayor Kate Hennings (Candice Bergen) sweeps her off her feet by proposing, Melanie goes back to her roots to track down her estranged husband and fix the only obstacle in her path to her future happiness. Initially frustrated by her old memories, Melanie slowly warms to and accepts her past as a necessary part of her future...

Runaway Bride

Julia Roberts plays small-town girl Maggie Carpenter, whose several marches down the aisle become a series of near Mrs. when she bolts before saying "I Do". Richard Gere is Ike graham, a cynical, big city newspaper columnist eager to write a tell-all story about Maggie. But the more Ike finds out about skittish Maggie, the more he finds he's falling in love... Can she finally stop running?

My Best Friend's Wedding

Julia Roberts (queen of the romcoms!), Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, and Dermot Mulroney give us My Best Friend's Wedding, a high-spirited romantic comedy that serves up something wild, something new, sometimes touching and sometimes truly hilarious!

Roberts dazzles as commitment-shy Julianne Potter, who suddenly realises she is in love with her best friend Michael (Mulroney). There's just one catch: he's about to marry his stunning new fiancee (Cameron Diaz). Now she has to win him back, and with just four days, the help of her resourceful boss (Everett) and the benefits of an extremely devious mind, Jules will do anything to steal him back; except tell him the honest truth!

The Wedding Singer

It's 1985 and Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) is the ultimate master of ceremonies until he is left at the altar at his own wedding. Devastated, he becomes a newlywed's worst nightmare - an entertainer who can do nothing but destroy other people's weddings. It's not until he meets a warm-hearted waitress named Julia (Drew Barrymore) that he starts to pick up the pieces of his heart. The only problem is, Julia's about to have a wedding of her own to the biggest jerk in the world, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a lifetime, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever... With one of the best first dance songs ever!

The Wedding Planner

Your wedding day. It must be glorious. It must be perfect. It must be the most memorable, idyllic and overwhelmingly love-filled occasion of your entire life. And there's only one person who can make this dream become a glowing reality - the wedding planner.

But this time, the one who makes everyone else's dreams come true, A-list San Francisco wedding planner Mary Fiore (Jennifer Lopez), has finally found the man of her dreams - or has she? When celebrating her newest and most lucrative account - the wedding of Internet tycoon Fran Donelly (Bridgette Wilson)- Mary is rescued from a near-fatal collision with a runaway dumpster by handsome Steve Edison (Matthew McConaughey). After spending the most enchanting evening of their lives together, Mary thinks she's finally found a reason to believe in love. What she doesn't know is that cupid and her career are about to collide head-on...

Quirky Wedding Readings!

So, as I continue my hunt for the perfect readings for my wedding, I thought I would share some of the ones I have enjoyed so far. Because we are at the registry office, we want to opt for something fun and sweet, and perhaps a little naughty! Here are a few of my favourites:

~Albert Einstein~
“Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.”

~Dr Seuss~
“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss

Congratulations! Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the couple who’ll decide where to go.
You’ll look up and down streets. Look ‘em over with care.
About some you will say, “We don’t choose to go there.”
With your heads full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you’re too smart to go down, any not-so-good street.
And you may not find any you’ll want to go down.
In that case, of course, you’ll head straight out of town.
It’s opener there in the wide open air,
Out there things can happen and frequently do
to people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen,
don’t worry. Don’t stew.
Just go right along. You’ll start happening too.
OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!
You’ll be on your way up!
You’ll be seeing great sights!
You’ll join the high fliers who soar to great heights!
You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have all the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang, and you’ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly you’ll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don’t. Because sometimes, you won’t.
You’ll get mixed up of course, as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up with so many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step. Step with great care and great tact
and remember that life’s a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will indeed!
(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)
KIDS, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!
So, be your name Buxbaum or Dowrie
or Bassor Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea,
you’re off to great places! Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So … get on your way!”

from I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg

I like you and I know why.
I like you because you are a good person to like.
I like you because when I tell you something special, you know it’s special
And you remember it a long, long time.
You say, “Remember when you told me something special?”
And both of us remember

When I think something is important
you think it’s important too
We have good ideas
When I say something funny, you laugh
I think I’m funny and you think I’m funny too
Hah-hah!

I like you because you know where I’m ticklish
And you don’t tickle me there except just a little tiny bit sometimes
But if you do, then I know where to tickle you too

You know how to be silly
That’s why I like you
Boy are you ever silly
I never met anybody sillier than me till I met you
I like you because you know when it’s time to stop being silly
Maybe day after tomorrow
Maybe never
Too late, it’s a quarter past silly!

Sometimes we don’t say a word
We snurkle under fences
We spy secret places
If I am a goofus on the roofus hollering my head off
You are one too
If I pretend I am drowning, you pretend you are saving me
If I am getting ready to pop a paper bag,
then you are getting ready to jump
HOORAY!

That’s because you really like me
You really like me, don’t you?
And I really like you back
And you like me back and I like you back
And that’s the way we keep on going every day

If you go away, then I go away too
or if I stay home, you send me a postcard
You don’t just say “Well see you around sometime, bye”
I like you a lot because of that
If I go away, I send you a postcard too
And I like you because if we go away together
And if we are in Grand Central Station
And if I get lost
Then you are the one that is yelling for me

And I like you because when I am feeling sad
You don’t always cheer me up right away
Sometimes it is better to be sad
You can’t stand the others being so googly and gaggly every single minute
You want to think about things
It takes time
I like you because if I am mad at you
Then you are mad at me too
It’s awful when the other person isn’t
They are so nice and hoo-hoo you could just about punch them in the nose

I like you because if I think I am going to throw up
then you are really sorry
You don’t just pretend you are busy looking at the birdies and all that
You say, maybe it was something you ate
You say, the same thing happened to me one time
And the same thing did

If you find two four-leaf clovers, you give me one
If I find four, I give you two
If we only find three, we keep on looking
Sometimes we have good luck, and sometimes we don’t
If I break my arm, and if you break your arm too
Then it’s fun to have a broken arm
I tell you about mine, you tell me about yours
We are both sorry
We write our names and draw pictures
We show everybody and they wish they had a broken arm too

I like you because I don’t know why but
Everything that happens is nicer with you
I can’t remember when I didn’t like you
It must have been lonesome then
I like you because because because
I forget why I like you but I do

So many reasons
On the 4th of July I like you because it’s the 4th of July
On the fifth of July, I like you too
If you and I had some drums and some horns and some horses
If we had some hats and some flags and some fire engines
We could be a HOLIDAY
We could be a CELEBRATION
We could be a WHOLE PARADE

See what I mean?
Even if it was the 999th of July
Even if it was August
Even if it was way down at the bottom of November
Even if it was no place particular in January
I would go on choosing you
And you would go on choosing me
Over and over again

That’s how it would happen every time
I don’t know why
I guess I don’t know why I really like you
Why do I like you
I guess I just like you
I guess I just like you because I like you.

A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton

The fierce Dinosaur was trapped inside his cage of ice. Although it was cold he was happy in there. It was, after all, his cage.

Then along came the Lovely Other Dinosaur.
The Lovely Other Dinosaur melted the Dinosaur’s cage with kind words and loving thoughts.

I like this Dinosaur thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.
Although he is fierce he is also tender and he is funny.
He is also quite clever though I will not tell him this for now.

I like this Lovely Other Dinosaur, thought the Dinosaur. She is beautiful and she is different and she smells so nice.
She is also a free spirit which is a quality I much admire in a dinosaur.

But he can be so distant and so peculiar at times, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.
He is also overly fond of things.
Are all Dinosaurs so overly fond of things?

But her mind skips from here to there so quickly thought the Dinosaur. She is also uncommonly keen on shopping.
Are all Lovely Other Dinosaurs so uncommonly keen on shopping?

I will forgive his peculiarity and his concern for things, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur. For they are part of what makes him a richly charactered individual.

I will forgive her skipping mind and her fondness for shopping, thought the Dinosaur. For she fills our life with beautiful thoughts and wonderful surprises. Besides, I am not unkeen on shopping either.

Now the Dinosaur and the Lovely Other Dinosaur are old.
Look at them.
Together they stand on the hill telling each other stories and feeling the warmth of the sun on their backs.

And that, my friends, is how it is with love.
Let us all be Dinosaurs and Lovely Other Dinosaurs together.
For the sun is warm.

And the world is a beautiful place.
