Gingerbread Houses

With christmas quickly approaching (it's almost November!) I thought I'd do a festive post today. I'm aware it's a little early but...oh well.

If you're having a holiday themed wedding have you thought of having gingerbread houses as centrepieces? This would be a great focal point and you can make them yourselves saving you money.

You can make each one different if you want, or theme them around your lives (first house etc).

Making gingerbread houses can be really fun but also quite fiddly in parts. I've found it takes quite a lot of precision (measuring out each side correctly, glueing them together well with icing sugar).

Cocktail Class

Fancy having a cocktail station at your wedding? Here are some classic cocktail recipes so you can indulge in some yummy alcohol on your special day... And there is something really satisfying about making your own cocktail.

Cosmopolitan

Ingredients
  • 2 ounces (1/4 cup) vodka
  • 1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) triple sec
  • 3/4 ounce (1 tablespoon + 1 1/2 teaspoons) cranberry juice
  • 1/4 to 1/2 ounce (1 1/2 teaspoons to 3 teaspoons) fresh lime juice
  • 1 2-inch orange peel/twist
  • ice

Method
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice then add vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and lime juice. (We like the extra bite of extra lime juice, so we use 1/2 an ounce in our cosmopolitan cocktails. However, use what is best for your taste).
  2. Shake the cocktail shaker for about 30 seconds until well chilled. Then, strain into a martini glass.
  3. Garnish with orange peel/twist. For an extra burst of flavor, peel the orange twist over the filled cocktail glass. This way, the orange oils spray into the glass.

Dark and Stormy

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons (2 oz) dark rum
  • 6 tablespoons (3 oz) ginger beer
  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) lime juice
  • ice
  • lime slice for garnish

Method
  1. Add ice to glass. Then, pour rum, lime juice and ginger beer over ice. Serve with lime slice.

Gin Fizz

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons (2 oz) gin
  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 oz) lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • 3-4 oz club soda
  • lemon slice

Method
  1. Shake gin, lemon juice and powdered sugar in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Strain into a glass filled with ice. Add club soda, and then garnish with lemon slice.

White Russian

Ingredients
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1/2 cup Baileys Irish Cream
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1/8 teaspoons nutmeg
  • ice

Method
  1. Add vodka, Baileys Irish Cream and half and half to a cocktail shaker with ice. (Depending on the size of cocktail shaker, you may have to work in batches). Shake for 30 seconds.
  2. Pour into 4 chilled martini glasses and garnish each with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Zombie Cake Apocalypse!

Halloween is fast approaching and being one of my favourite holidays, I have so been looking forward to jumping into some Zombie action! The zombie theme is more popular than ever with shows like The Walking Dead and films releases like World War Z fueling our need to imagine scenarios of how we would survive the zombie apocalypse. And yes, I know my weapon choice, my stronghold and even my attire for the event if it ever happens in my lifetime!

So last year I brought you zombie weddings, this year I bring you zombie cakes! And as the baking world becomes ever more imaginative in their creations, more and more amazing edible delights keep cropping up just begging to be seen by the world. And here it is, my selection for this year of the best Zombie cakes!

Vintage travel affair........

Good morning !
Today I'm releasing to you one of my lovely mood boards designed for a client, based on there theme of rustic travel!

Featuring a barn wedding, in the Norfolk/Suffolk border,  Emily* and Jason* wanted a theme to help bring there love of travel and Emily's* passion of antique vintage to there big day, I was so excited to tackle this project that the inspirations keep flowing !
Check it out and see what great ideas we came up !
Gemma x

Emily's collection of old vintage postcards will make excellent wedding stationary!

Whilst the use of old globes collected from car boots and charity shops are being planned for table centre pieces!

We are looking to hire transport as showed in this picture for the bride to travel in and feature hand made wedding favours for the guests to enjoy!

Hot air balloons will play a fun side to the candy bar, as Jason* proposed whilst him and Emily* were on a sight seeing trip on holiday in a balloon!

The use of old luggage tags dipped in tea to stain them, will be used through out the wedding decorations and feature heavily on the table plan over an old map of the world!

Emily's*s Hair and make up will have a vintage twist and feature some amazing Art Deco head pieces, collected on her travels. Hair and make up will be done by www.gemmalamb.co.uk

And of course the dress?? Well even I haven't seen that yet !  But one thing I know it will be amazing and perfectly to spec !

Names changed for privacy reasons.
Inspirational ideas only - not a real wedding.

Dressing the Stag!

So today is one for the boys for a change! And as I prepare for my handsome hubby-to-be to head out on his Stag Do tomorrow, we are talking Stag Do attire! So how do you dress the wolfpack so in your soon to arrive drunken haze, you can all still find each other... How about matching t-shirts! There are so many places to get these from, my favourite bargain zone being eBay, as well as lots of other sites online.

Some of my favourites are below, including the dare list, the Hangover wolfpack top and the infamous pink shirts made famous by the Inbetweeners!

Vintage photography at its best!

Good morning,
If there's one theme you cannot get away from it's the vintage look!
So many possibilities and endless amounts of unique Styles and twists, you never see the same wedding twice !

When it comes to your photography, one trick I never see used enough is good old fashion sepia. Black and white images will always hold a closeness in my heart as it simply says romance, but with a sepia image it really adds a touch of the vintage vibe! Check out these beautiful images to see exactly what I mean !

Sweet Tooth

Today I feel myself drawn back to wedding favors again. If you want to save money, give your guests something handmade and love to bake then this may be perfect for you and your groom to be.

Cookies for wedding favors. And not just any old cookie. Bride and groom shaped cookies! They don't have to be too complicated; a simple design is often much more effective. You could opt for a basic shape for the cookie itself and then add more intricacy for the icing.

If you fancy making them more personal still then why not add a detail which makes it obvious that it's you and your partner. This could be a hairstyle, piece of clothing or just an initial.

Have a look at some of these great bride and groom cookies...

Bejeweled Delights

I found the first of these images online and just thought it was stunning. The giant jewels are wonderfully striking and I love the boldness of the dress. You'd have to wear it with confidence but I don't doubt it would look fantastic.

Having found this beautiful dress I was inspired to look for more bejeweled dresses. They may not be everyone's cup of tea but if you're after something's little different for your wedding day or engagement party this could be the way to go...

I hope these classy and (dare I use the word blingy) dresses bring you inspiration!
