Tim & Corrine’s Sci-Fi Wedding at Elm Farm, Norwich
By E J Woodrow Photography
Hi my name is Emily Woodrow and I had the pleasure of photographically documenting the Sci-Fi
Wedding of Tim & Corrine last month.
It was important to the couple to capture their passion of Sci-Fi and
create a vibrant and energetic evening reception which they definitely
accomplished.
I was so impressed with the level of
imagination and ingenuity that was used to create this magical day; I felt it
had to be shared! If you are stuck for
ideas or would like the knowhow of attracting your guests to the dance floor
then please read on….
1)
The Sci-Fi theme was amazing, what made you decide to
include it in your wedding? Does Sci-Fi relate to how you met?
We didn't meet through Sci-fi but it's always been a mutual interest.
Though we're not a perfect match on that front... When we told people we were
getting married, all my friends said "Is it going to be Star Wars
themed?" and all Corinne's asked if it would be Star Trek
themed!
In the end we decided to go for a non-specific theme that brought together elements of all our favourite Science Fiction, which I think ended up being more interesting.

2) I especially liked the setup of the scene from ‘Alien’; did you design and create the Alien egg yourself? How did it work?
Corinne and I made the egg/post-box
ourselves and bought a "cuddly" face hugger to try and make the
overall effect slightly more wedding-y!
We constructed the egg from the bottom up using paper mache, various paints, glazes and a glue gun. The design itself was an amalgamation of slightly different variations, both of course designed by the amazing artist H.R. Giger, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.
The mist was created by a smoke machine that the owner of our venue fed through one of the tubes I had attached so that smoke flowed from the top of the egg.

3) What was your favourite part of the wedding day and why?
I think mainly just the way that
everything came together after two years of planning and still managed to be
better than we had dared hope!
It was also wonderful to see how well everyone responded to some of the more unusual elements of the wedding; it would have been no fun if other people hadn't enjoyed themselves as much as we did.

4) There was an incredible amount
of energy on the dance floor, for all of the young couples who are
planning their wedding reception, how did you achieve this?
My best advice would be: stick to your
guns when it comes to what music you want to play. If you like it and think
people will dance to it - do it!
I can't count the amount of our songs
that DJs at wedding fairs dismissed as "floor killers". As you saw
yourself, they turned out to be anything but! I got fed up of DJs telling
me to replace Nine Inch Nails with James Blunt, so I made a playlist
based on our friends' music taste and mixed it to remove those awkward gaps
between songs. If you know a DJ who you can trust to play the songs you want,
use them. Otherwise, do it yourself - it worked great for us!
5) How
did you find my photography services and what attracted you to my
service?
Steve, the owner of our venue (Elm Farm) recommended you (yet another great thing he did for us!).

We'd spoken to people at wedding fairs
who were clearly skilled photographers, but I knew that -
between the sci-fi elements and the music - many of them would spend
most of the day thinking "what the..?!" and not know where to point
their camera!
Once we'd
met you, though, it was clear that you "got" what we wanted to
do and could therefore take the kind of photos we wanted. Also, beyond the
formal group shots, we didn't want people to be distracted from enjoying
themselves and made to pose in cheesy positions. We wanted someone who
could discreetly capture the true feel of the day - which you did!
Looking at the photos you can see that all of them are 100% real, if
you stick on the playlist it's almost like being back there!
If you want more in your wedding album
than posed formal photos, please get in touch.
