Disney Dreams

Morning, its the weekend :)

Today's blog is about the beautiful dresses designed by Alfred Angelo. Alfred Angelo is one of my favourite designers and my own wedding dress is from this particular designer. I am a huge Disney fan and when I found out that there was a Disney Collection I had to show it off!

Snow White:

A tulle ball gown with a fairytale corsage around the waist. This gown is as enchanting as a magical forest.

Belle:

Elaborate draping, folding and pleating make up this beautiful ballgown fit for a princess.

Cinderella:

This dress is made up from satin, net, re-embroidered lace, crystal beading, pearls, sequins and rhinestones. Get ready to sparkle in the moonlight.

Rapunzel:

This fitted gown of draped soft net, twist and turns like Rapunzel's luscious locks.

Ariel:

This mermaid gown is draped and has a fitted bodice, which also features a belt. The belt is encrusted with gemstones, crystals and pearls.

Jasmine:

This gown is a whole new world of glamour! It has a fitted bodice, which is gleaming with jewels and crystals.

Tiana:

This dress has layers upon layers of riches organza and lace, this dress catches the true spirit of New Orleans.

I hope you have enjoyed the beautiful Disney dresses and it had inspired you to bring out your inner princess!

*Destination Wedding* ~ Gretna Green

Hello everyone! Today I'm doing something a little different for you all. We are going to Gretna Green! Well, we will be seeing what makes this one of the UK and the World's most popular wedding destinations for couples of all ages and races. So lets head north to Scotland and find out more!

The History

It is usually assumed that Gretna Green's famous "run-away marriages" began in 1754 when Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act came into force in England. Under this Act, if a parent of a minor (i.e., a person under the age of 21) objected, they could prevent the marriage going ahead. The Act tightened up the requirements for marrying in England and Wales but did not apply in Scotland, where it was possible for boys to marry at 14 and girls at 12 years old with or without parental consent. It was, however, only in the 1770s, with the construction of a toll road passing through the hitherto obscure village of Graitney, that Gretna Green became the first easily reachable village over the Scottish border. The Old Blacksmith's Shop, built around 1712, and Gretna Hall Blacksmith's Shop (1710) became the focal tourist points for weddings. The Old Blacksmith's opened to the public as a visitor attraction as early as 1887. Since 1929 both parties in Scotland have had to be at least 16 years old, but they still may marry without parental consent. In England and Wales, the age for marriage is now 16 with parental consent and 18 without.

Nowadays

Gretna Green is now hosting over 5000 weddings each year in the Gretna/Gretna Green area, and one of every six Scottish weddings. Gretna's two blacksmiths' shops and countless inns and smallholding became the backdrops for tens of thousands of weddings. Today there are several wedding venues in and around Gretna Green, from former churches to purpose-built chapels. The services at all the venues are always performed over an iconic blacksmith's anvil. Gretna Green endures as one of the world's most popular wedding venues, and thousands of couples come from around the world to be married 'over the anvil' at Gretna Green.

If You Wish Upon a Star

Each and every one if us has an imagination. Some people choose to use theirs less than others but it doesn't alter the fact that it's there. When I was growing up I spent most of my time in a magical world full of fairies, dragons, hidden doors to hidden worlds and endless possibilities. It was amazing, and to be honest i still enjoy wandering to those places.

And what stories are we told which help to fuel this? Fairytales. Most children will have grown up hearing and reading these wonderful stories and will know the happily-every-after endings. Every little girl has dreamed of that fairytale wedding; the handsome prince, the enchanted dress and the talking animals who help you to get ready.

As I've mentioned many times before, I love making cakes. And as I was reminiscing about fairytales I thought about how amazing it would be to have a fairytale wedding cake! I've been trawling the internet and have found some stunners! Enjoy!

Our recommended suppliers Sassas Cakes and Bella Cupcakes also have a stunning collection of cakes which I'd highly recommend looking at!

Behind the Scenes at Ruby and Nelly's Commercial Shoot

Good morning; today I'm going to be giving you a sneak peek from behind the scenes at Mondays photo shoot. The photo shoot was to showcase the new business Ruby and Nelly's; a fabulous vintage crockery hire company specialising in weddings (but also supplying a gorgeous range of stock for other events such as children's parties!)

This shoot taught me a lot. I learnt that it is possible to create stunning results even at short notice (believe it or not this all came together in about four days). I learnt that some of the best shots come from being brave and thinking a little outside of the box. And I confirmed what I already knew; Norfolk is full of some incredibly talented people!

In this blog I'm going to show you some photos which I took on the day and tell you about my amazing suppliers!

The location was a magical garden in North Norfolk which had everything we could have dreamt inside it.

The dress was a Kate-Middleton esk satin and lace number with a high neckline and long, elegant sleeves.

Ruby and Nelly's is run by sisters Laura and Cassie who are both passionate about all things vintage and all things tea & cake! What a great way to have an individual celebration, be it wedding, christening, children's party or garden party. Ruby and Nelly's can cater for 100+ guests and offer a great selection of packages (the website is well worth a little peruse).

She was lovely to work with and completely understood what I was trying to achieve with the shoot! I cannot wait to see the end results!

Sarah Swain
This wonderful hair and makeup artist saved me this week, when, a day before the photo shoot I was still searching for someone to fill this role. Sarah created gorgeous hair, adorned with daisy's picked from the location, and simple understated makeup for our beautiful bride. Have a look at her website for pricing and more details about her mobile service!

Sophie and Smith
This young lady creates some of the most beautiful wedding dresses I've ever seen (her talents don't stop there; she also makes gorgeous garters and prom dresses). I know this is where I will go to get my dress when I get married. You definitely need to go to this website!

And last but not least a massive thank you to Yvonne Reynolds for letting us use her enchanting garden and to Sam Holden for being a beautiful bride!

The locations a such a variety of places to shoot!

We had company on location, in the shape of a small dog called Connie, who took a liking to Jillian, the photographer.

Here are some of the lovely cups and saucers that Ruby and Nelly's have.

Dress My Chairs !

Good morning!

On today's blog I'm experimenting with different types of ways to style your chairs. So many companies are popping up with chair covers with beautiful sashes but what if your theme requires more than a sash?

Whilst planning the barn wedding of the century, I'm looking for that something different, so let me know what you think of these amazing ways to dress your chairs!

Dress to Impress at Your Reception

A new trend has emerged in the wedding world, made popular by celebrities with the likes of Kate Middleton and Beyonce paving the way. It has always been around, but as wedding budgets increase, more and more brides are giving in to the temptation. Yes, I am talking about having a second dress for your wedding reception.

Don't get me wrong, it's not for everyone, I know myself that when I wear my dress, I will be wearing it all day and night (and with a price tag like it has, I'll be sleeping in it too just to make sure I get the use out of it!), but it is a great option for the ladies who want to strip down the layers to enjoy getting down on the dance floor in the evening. Perhaps you are having a Summer beach wedding but still want to wear that big Cinderella dress you dreamed of as a girl. This option means in the evening, you can have a quick change and stay cool in the warm and humidity of a Summer's night.

It's also a great way to have two different styles, for example having a princess ballgown during the day, and then changing into a cute knee length, vintage 50's style. From sheath styles to short styles, you can really go to town, and of course, you don't have to choose white, you can be as colourful as you want!

Places like Monsoon and Debenhams have a great range of gowns that are perfect for an evening dress, as well as checking out your local wedding boutiques.

Have a look at these to get some ideas!
