A wedding is one of the rare events in our lives when everyone who we care about is in one place. It's wonderful! If you're lucky, even friends who have moved to other countries may be able to come and celebrate with you. Unfortunately there are always going to be unavoidable situations where guests who you'd love to be a part of your special day can't make it. This may be due to work commitments, age, illness or distance.
But we are now a part of a generation which has a solution to this problem. The Internet; Skype, FaceTime and many other variations in between.
I think it's amazing that we can connect with family and friends who we are not able to see on a regular basis. I'm sure most of us have at least one member of our family who live abroad (I've got a branch in Australia). When I was at , university I was able to Skype with my family and catch up or on occasion attend birthdays that I wasn't able to attend, via a webcam. And while I was traveling its value was priceless. I could talk to friends like we were in the same room!
So if you're planning a wedding and some special people can't make it in person, why not make sure they can be there in 2D. All you need is a laptop or similar, the Internet and the relevant software program. If more than one person can't attend then you can set up a conference call and involve multiple people on the same laptop. Set up the laptop in a good viewing spot, check they can see your faces during the service and not your feet and you're good to go.
This option obviously doesn't come close to the real thing (being at the service, eating the food, drinking the drinks, dancing) but it's the best alternative in my opinion.
Would you consider this for your big day?
