Rock-a-billy Wedding!

I love the whole rock-a-billy style at the moment. Many of you in the alternative and vintage styles will already know of its growing popularity, with more and more designers offering this look (I often sport a Hell Bunny dress on evenings out). And many of you will be hearing of this for the first time. Imagine 50's style mixed with modern day rock (eg, Grease combined with Metallica)! Expect big hair, petticoats, polka-dots, and lots of vintage styled cars and dresses!

The Clothes

The fashion can be fun for the Bride and the Groom too. Brides can opt for cute knee length dresses, adding a petticoat to give it lift creating a poodle skirt effect, wearing a small over-the-face veil. And the Groom can wear brighter colours, red often being favourite, whilst rocking some awesome sideburns and quiffs gelled through their hair. For bridesmaids you can go two ways. Having a knee length poodle skirt style dress for the girls with matching colours or patterns can be nice, as well as opting to put the ladies into a pencil dress for a boost of sexiness.

The Cars

This is great to really bring in that vintage feeling, using old cars such as Cadillacs and Thunderbirds to give that 50's touch or perhaps having an old Harley Davidson for pictures.

The Stationary

Invitations can be as simple or as fun as you want. Once again, influencing polka-dots into them will add the rock-a-billy feel. Add a modern rock motif like skulls or perhaps a more old school touch such as black and white tile effect to get the 50's diner idea. Traditional tattoo designs are often a favourite on invitations, using the loveheart scrolls or coupled birds.

The Rest

With this theme, you can go as wild and creative as you want. Serve glass bottled cokes to guests, or bring in a live band to get everyone swinging. You could even have some mid-day entertainment by getting in a Jive dancing tutor to give you and your guests a fun class, unless you want to keep that for yourself and surprise all your friends and family with the big routine! You can use any colour theme although the most popular are pinks and reds, using little motifs throughout the day such as birds, cherries or flowers to add your personal touch.

So have a look into it. You can find more of this style for your wedding in Rock and Roll Bride magazine, by hunting online, or by giving us a call! Or if its just for you to influence into your every day style, try designers such as Hell Bunny and Iron Fist for clothes.
