Ways to turn your mum's dress around...

Ah, so your mum's suggested you wear her old gown,, and the disappointment is stabbing though you as you look at the tired shabby lace and long sleeves, not to mention the shoulder pads !
You know that 1980′s polyester  with puffy shoulders should stay in the history books !!
Well, she kept that beautiful dress for you to wear on your big day! That’s right. Just for you! Unless your having a  full-on Dynasty-themed wedding,

OK, it cant be that bad!
You actually love it deep down, but it’s too small or too short,  Maybe it wasn’t properly preserved and it’s now damaged and irreparable. Don’t worry ! There are creative ways you can use mum’s gown in your wedding.
While these suggestions mean trimming it slightly, you will be creating a new pieces that can (hopefully) be used for generations to come,
Suggest carefully that you would like to use the dress to make items for the wedding that can be passed down and as joint venture you want to share it with your mum. A bit of mother daughter bonding time before the big day.

Here is a few ideas of what you could use that antique gown for....

Bouquet Lace. Strips of fabric from a beaded bodice look stunning rapped around the stems of your bouquet.

Harvest the lace and incorporate it into your own gown or veil.

Make a garter.

Hair accessories! Cover inexpensive plastic or wire headbands with the fabric, lace, and embellishments. Use buttons and embellishments to create one-of-a-kind hair pins

Fabric flowers. Perfect for headbands, bouquets, corsages.

Cover the front of an album, guest book

How about something for the flower girl? Line a petal basket. If there’s enough fabric, how about an entire dress or skirt for your girls?

Cover vases or votive holders with fabric and lace for stunning centrepieces.

Make a sash for your gown.

Bib necklaces are super hot right now.

Cover boxes for use as card holders.

A ring pillow. Wedding gown fabrics make fabulous ring pillows. Ring pillows are also terrific beginner DIY projects.
