Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Its Michelle back once again and as promised, today is all about Rainbows! The wedding theme that is! I love this theme as it is so versatile, and you can use small hints around your day, or go all out. You can go bold with bright colours, or keep it soft by using pastels. It also means no more constantly looking for one tone to match your whole big day, you can have every colour and any colour. So here are my top tips to achieving a day even Dorothy would be proud of! (Couldn't resist a pun....)

Lets start with attire! The girls can really go to town with this idea. Of course the Bride can wear white if wanted, or join in the rainbow colours. What makes this great for Bridal parties is that every girl can have an outfit that suits their body shape and skin tone. You can use different fitting dresses to fit all body shapes from pears to hourglasses (yes I watch Gok Wan!), and have each girl in a different colour of the rainbow. This is very cost effective as dresses can be obtained from local Highstreet stores, with my favourite being Quiz. And if you are really good at hunting, you could even find the same dress for each girl, but in different colours, most likely achieved from a Bridal Boutique. Of course, you can always tone it down with the ladies and just have rainbow shoes, tights or sashes. And have matching nails and make-up! Men can still use the theme too, wearing different colour socks, shoes and ties, or perhaps using different buttonholes to obtain the effect.

Now for the day. Go wild! Rainbow themed decorations are relatively easy to find and/or make. Different chair sashes around your reception room can be a fun touch and bright, bold flower combinations to dress tables. Hang various coloured lanterns around the room, candles, napkins and even have rainbow umbrellas for guests in case of the rain are great ways of continuing the theme. This is also a fantastic excuse to get yourself that Candy Bar that you've been wanting, as sweets are the perfect accompaniment to bright events, making sure to have plenty different colours on show, and of course some Rainbow Drops!

Cakes are fun as you can once again go as wild or as simple as you want with each tier being a different colour or just using various cake sashes, and I know there will be many a cake maker out there who would love to do a rainbow coloured cake! Invitations are the same, as much or as little as you want either using rainbow coloured card, or perhaps a small motif on the paper. Even get the caterer involved by using bright food options, such as citrus fruits and vegetables. The rainbow tone is determined by you, so be sure to have a good think just how much you want around the day itself. And of course, have fun!
