For all of you who don't know what Steampunk is (I didn't know when I got my wedding invitation telling me about the dress code so had to Google it!) I'll explain as briefly and simply as possible (although I think images are the best way for me to explain);
Steampunk itself comes from science fiction and gets its name from steam powered machinery. As a genre it is usually set in the Victorian period. As a style Steampunk is Victorian-esk fashion with a mechanical twist. Think goggles, cogs and corsets.
This alternative theme can be so creative and fun and for those of you who are fed up of the "same old thing" at weddings; this is worth some research!
Brides if you don't want to wear a white dress this is perfect for you; this theme lends itself perfectly to darker colours (although white isn't out of the question). The corset plays a large role in Steampunk so if you fancy lacing yourself tightly into one for the day and giving yourself those stunning curves then look no further. And as for shoes... anything a little quirky, with some fabulous detailing and you're set (preferably with some cogs).
Grooms if you don't want to wear a simple suit and are secretly jealous of how the Bride always gets the fancy clothes then I think you'll like this! (As long as you don't mind donning some goggles, a waistcoat and perhaps a top hat).
I've found some fantastic accessories which would love this theme. This cog ring is so adorable as is the buttonhole. The top hat has been made wonderfully feminine with feathers, netting and the fabric flower. And those two head pieces.. wow!
The bouquet takes its own role in this theme as the delicate flowers come face to face with metal mechanical pieces. And with all those little clocks the bride may even be on time...
Your mode of transport could be incredible too! Old with a twist...
And as for the cake... well as always the cake has the ability to steal the show!
All in all I think the Steampunk theme is so much fun! If you hadn't heard of Steampunk before I hope you've enjoyed learning a little about it.
For those of you wanting to think a little outside of the wedding-box I hope this has stirred your imagination for what's possible if you fancy something a little different...
