Lavender Love

Lavender (Lavandula) is a genus of 39 species and can be found growing all over from Britain and Europe, to Africa and Asia. However the one that we all know (and gives name to the colour) its Common or English Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia). This aromatic plant is perfect for a wedding, especially with purple being a massive colour trend for this year. Now what you are probably thinking is 'What exactly can I do with it?'. The possibilities are endless. From flowers to food, here are some great lavender wedding tips and tricks!

Bride and Groom Parties

A bushel of lavender makes a simple yet elegant bouquet for a bride, and the smell will keep you perfumed throughout the day. I do love the idea of making the stemmed flower into headpieces for the younger girls of the bridal group (the calming effects hopefully keeping them in one spot). Groomsmen can use a sprig in the buttonhole to compliment the ladies.

Guests

Guests love to receive at weddings as much as they love to give. Invitations can be decorated with a lavender print, just a purple colour, or perhaps you want to be more crafty, and can buy small artificial sprigs to place on cards (stopping real sprigs from falling apart during transport). Favours are simple. Lavender candles are an obvious choice, as well as small sachets of lavender for use in keeping drawers and wardrobes fresh. Because a lot of the favour ideas are quite simple, the couples into craft activities may prefer making them for an added touch of home.

Food

With chefs becoming more and more creative with their culinary skills (take a look at Heston Blumenthal for example) there are so many options to use as a little lavender infusion for your wedding. Lavender can now be made and found in ice cream, macaroons, tarts, scones and many other delicious treats. And when it comes to your cake, how about decorating it with real lavender so when guests go to have a look, they will smell that wonderful smell of the flower.

The Rest

You can use the flower as much as you want around the room. In vases or hanging sprigs around the room can be nice. You can also find lavender confetti. Be warned though! if you are having a morning wedding and guests will be hanging around for quite a long time, the relaxing lavender effect may have your guests retiring to their rooms early!
