Find Your Perfect Dress

The number one issue for Brides is picking the perfect dress. But, how do you know what shape and style will suit you? I know I have this worry as I have a small bust and straight away can feel that there will be dress issues once I get in the changing room. So here are some helpful tips on picking the perfect outfit for you.

A-Line Dress

This dress has fitted vertical seams running from shoulders down to a flair skirt with no seam across the waistline. The skirt looks like the shape of the letter "A" and is called an A-line skirt. Sometimes this dress shape is also called a Princess dress. This wedding dress style is suitable for most brides as it helps to make the waist look slim and hide your hips. If you want to add volume to the dress for a more dreamy princess look, a hooped petticoat beneath the skirt may just do the trick.

Ballgown Dress

The silhouette of ball gown dress and A-line dresses can be very similar, especially when the volume of an A-line wedding dress is boosted by a hoop. The main difference lies in way the seams run. The way to tell the difference is: for ball gown dresses, you will see a seam running across the waistline and the skirt starts to balloon up from there. Ball gown wedding dresses are normally paired with fitted bodice line. They look fabulous on brides with slim waistlines and are perfect for hiding fuller hips - a very good disguise for a pear body shape. Do take care: brides with a large body frame should think twice about this style as it may make them look bigger and very petite brides may also find it exhausting carrying too much extra fabric for their little frame.

Mermaid Dress

The mermaid wedding dress can also be known as a fishtail or trumpet dress. It is close-fitting until the knees, where the skirt starts to flair out, creating the shape of a fishtail or a trumpet. This is becoming a very popular trend for 2013. The narrow bodice is great for showing off a body with nice, balanced curves. Mermaid wedding dresses are not only fantastic for tall, slim brides, they are also great for petite brides who wish to look taller. Be warned, this wedding dress style can be "unforgiving" to brides who dislike their body shape.

Sheath Dress

Sheath wedding dresses are also known as column wedding dresses. Like A-line wedding dresses, the seams runs straight down from the shoulders to the floor but the hem is not as flaired. In fact, sheath wedding dresses are normally body-hugging and reveal the body shape. This style work best for tall, slim brides with balanced figures. It is also excellent for petite brides as it creates an elongated illusion. However brides who don't like their body shape should stay away from sheath dresses no matter how beautiful they look. You don't want to end up hating the way you look in your wedding photos!

Empire Dress

An empire dress has a high waistline and the seam is just underneath the bust where the skirt starts and falls all the way to the floor. The empire line is normally straighter than the  A-line but is not as body-hugging as a sheath wedding dress. Empire line is perfect for slim brides with small-busts. Because of its long, straight silhouette, petite brides will also appear taller in an empire dress. This style is also a good maternity option for pregnant brides as it provides comfortable room in the waist compared to wedding dresses with lower waistline.
